Exciting Opportunity for a Technical Director - Surfaces and Lighting
Develops and implements appearance of the texture and color of each object. Develops shaders using a wide range of techniques. Establish direct and reflected lighting and shadows for each assigned shot. Ensure that assigned shots fit in the continuity of a sequence and fulfill the vision of the Director, Art Director and VFX Supervisor. Ensure that lighting setups are clean, documented and easy to understand. Troubleshoot and debug problems as they arise.
Requirements:
- Photorealistic Maya / Mental Ray.
- Lighting & illumination, with experience using (HDRI).
- Full understanding of map properties in relation to their surface.
- Skills in 2D packages as Photoshop, After FX, Shake, etc.
- Ability to create high quality texture maps, including Bump, and Specular Maps.
- Scripting ability in relevant languages including MEL required.
- A history of consistent high-end aesthetic and technical execution.
- Self-managed and Self-motivated.
- Innovative Problem-Solver and workflow designer.
- Patient and willing to answer questions and mentor other artists.
Desired Skills and Pluses:
- 2-5+ years Industry experience.
- An art background showing a thorough understanding of visual balance, texture, color, light and form.
- Dynamics, Particle FX and MEL.
- Experience with GPU hardware-acceleration.
- Strong scripting skills in at least one of the following Perl / Python / BASH / CSH.
- Experience lighting scenes for film production.
- Interest in Science, Chemistry, and Nano/Biotechnology a plus.
